This is a great time to join The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as the Trust Chief Registrar.

We are currently in the process of redeveloping the hospital to provide a new state-of-the-art hospital for the residents of Hillingdon, and beyond, which supports the very best in delivery of healthcare and will be fit for our future.

The Chief Registrar role is a senior leadership development position for doctors across UK hospitals, established by the Royal College of Physicians. It provides protected time for senior resident doctors to develop leadership and quality improvement skills while continuing clinical work. Chief Registrars work with hospital leadership to improve services, support education and training for junior doctors, enhance staff engagement and morale, and contribute to workforce planning and sustainable healthcare delivery.

The Chief Registrarrole is a senior leadership development position for doctors across UK hospitals, established by the Royal College of Physicians. It provides protected time for senior resident doctors to develop leadership and quality improvement skills while continuing clinical work. Chief Registrars work with hospital leadership to improve services, support education and training for junior doctors, enhance staff engagement and morale, and contribute to workforce planning and sustainable healthcare delivery.

This requires at least a 40% dedicated nonclinical time (2 days a week) and 60% clinical time. It is a minimal 12-month post.

For NTN doctors, this can be either an in-programme or out of programme training experience as per the Chief registrar job description.

Providing a ‘bridge’ between colleagues of various specialities:

Engage senior clinical leaders, managers and the wider trainee workforce to improve communication, engagement and morale.

Service improvement, for example redesigning pathways, implementing new technology and establishing new services to improve flow and outcomes for patients.



Improving the quality of clinical and non-clinical education and training activities, and supporting/mentoring other trainees to engage in quality improvement.

Involvement in and exposure to senior management and organisational decision-making

Involvement in workforce planning and improving the deployment of trainees to meet service needs and improve morale.
