General Science Teacher (ECT) – Flexible supply opportunities, day-to-day and short-term roles from September 2026


These flexible opportunities are ideal for a General Science Teacher (ECT) who enjoys variety and wants to build confidence across different secondary school settings. Working on supply allows a General Science Teacher (ECT) to gain broad classroom experience, develop behaviour management skills, and make a positive impact while maintaining flexibility from September 2026. This role is well suited to early career teachers looking to strengthen their practice across KS3 and KS4.

Duties as General Science Teacher (ECT):

  • Deliver engaging and well-structured General Science lessons using pre-planned materials
  • Support pupil progress across Biology, Chemistry and Physics at KS3 and KS4
  • Maintain a positive, safe, and well-managed classroom environment
  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet a range of abilities and learning needs
  • Follow school behaviour policies and safeguarding procedures at all times
  • Manage classroom routines confidently to ensure continuity of learning
  • Provide clear feedback and handover notes for permanent staff
  • Represent Step Teachers professionally while working as a General Science Teacher (ECT)

Ideal General Science Teacher (ECT):

  • Qualified Teacher Status, suitable for Early Career Teachers
  • Strong subject knowledge across General Science
  • Confidence teaching Science to secondary-aged pupils
  • A flexible, reliable, and proactive approach to supply teaching
  • Good classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Willingness to work across different school environments
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
