Summary

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and organised Accounts Assistant to support the finance function of the business. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with month-end processes, and supporting budgeting, VAT, audit, and foreign currency management activities. This role requires strong numerical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a busy finance team.

Key Responsibilities

- Maintain purchase and sales ledgers accurately and efficiently
- Perform general bookkeeping duties and maintain financial records
- Prepare and reconcile accounts, ensuring all discrepancies are investigated and resolved
- Maintain cashbooks and bank accounts, including regular bank reconciliations
- Process and post journal entries into the accounting system
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities
- Support the preparation and submission of VAT returns
- Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts
- Provide support with company secretarial duties and statutory filings
- Manage and monitor foreign currency transactions and balances
- Assist with internal and external company audits by preparing required documentation and schedules
- Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures
- Support the wider finance team with ad hoc administrative and accounting tasks as required

Skills & Experience Required

- Previous experience in an accounts or bookkeeping role
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial processes
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience with VAT returns and management accounts preparation is desirable
- Knowledge of foreign currency transactions would be advantageous
