Summary
We are recruiting for 2 x Technical Managers on an 18 month fixed term basis at our Wellingborough head office. This role plays a vital part in making sure the products our customers buy are always safe, legal and agreed quality. You’ll be the technical representative for your category, working closely with commercial, own brand development and supplier partners to ensure our standards are consistently met.
You’ll support the Lead Technical Manager in delivering our technical strategy, strengthening supplier performance, managing risk, and driving a culture where product comes first. From incident response to continuous improvement, your work will help protect customers and enhance the quality of our offer
Product assurance — Making sure products meet Booker’s food safety, quality and integrity standards throughout their lifecycle, including technical input into development, reformulation and specifications.
Supplier performance — Supporting supplier approval, monitoring documentation, reviewing audit outcomes and ensuring corrective actions are completed.
Compliance and governance — Applying Booker’s technical policies, supporting internal audits, maintaining QMS processes and monitoring technical KPIs and complaints.
Risk and incident management — Acting as a first‑line responder for product or supplier issues, supporting withdrawals/recalls and ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions are completed.
Cross‑functional collaboration — Embedding technical requirements into commercial and supply chain decisions, and providing clear guidance to colleagues across the business.
Continuous improvement — Identifying opportunities to enhance product quality, supplier performance and technical processes, contributing to a culture of technical excellence.
Technical experience in food retail, wholesale, manufacturing or supply chain.
Strong knowledge of food safety, quality management, product specifications and supplier assurance.
Experience in incident handling, root cause analysis and corrective action management.
Understanding of UK food law, regulatory requirements and technical governance.
Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to communicate technical information clearly to non technical colleagues.
Confidence working cross‑functionally, influencing decisions and managing multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.
A relevant food science or technical qualification (or equivalent experience).
