About the role

University of Staffordshire has embarked on an ambitious and unique transformation in the Higher Education sector where we strive to become the UK’s leading Digital University. To help deliver this, we’re looking for a Network Engineer degree apprentice, a technical role supporting the design and delivery of wired and wireless network services across the University, to join our Network & Infrastructure Team.

Alongside this full time role, the apprentice will undertake the ‘Level 6 Digital and Technology Solutions Professional Degree - Network Engineer Pathway’, studied at University of Staffordshire. Apprentices will complete launch weeks at our Stoke-on-Trent campus for 1 week per semester. On completion of the programme, apprentices will achieve a BSc (Hons) Digital & Technology Solutions.

Main Responsibilities

Working within the Network & Infrastructure Team and reporting to the Network & Infrastructure Manager, the role of the Network Engineer Apprentice will be to perform the following:

Use network management systems software and appropriate analysis equipment to collect routine network load statistics, model performance, and create reports as required.
Carry out routine configuration/installation/ reconfiguration and updates of hardware and software. Removal of hardware and / or software. Use supplied installation/ decommission instructions and tools, following agreed standards.
Using standard procedures and tools, carry out defined tasks associated with the planning, installation, upgrade, operation, control and maintenance of local and wide area networks.
Carry out routine network related configuration, reconfiguration, updates and BAU processes within Azure Cloud and Azure Local environments.
Investigate, diagnose, and resolve network problems including Cloud and on premises server environments, escalating when required and documenting results.
Assist with vulnerability remediations and protection of assets from cybersecurity threat.
Provide second line technical and user support. Maintain accurate records of user requests, updates, and outcomes via the service management system.
Contribute to the development of installation and recovery procedures and standards.
This is a great opportunity for an entry level Network Engineer to gain experience in Cisco technologies and undertake the ‘Level 6 Digital and Technology Solutions Professional Degree - Network Engineer Pathway’.
