Summary

We are looking for a Personal Assistant (PA) to support a lively 8 year old, non-verbal boy. We ask that you are someone who is reliable, empathetic, and who shows dignity and respect towards others. You will also need excellent communication skills in order to ascertain the child’s needs and to develop a trusting relationship with them.
There may be some support required at home; however, the role will primarily encompass support in the community, accessing the child’s favourite routes and activities. A driving licence is therefore preferred.

Main duties
To support the child and the family during weekends and the school holidays by:
Supporting the child to access the community; typically, this would involve favourite places such as the beach or the park.
Occasional support at home.
To help develop his independence and social skills.
Please note, there may be some support required in relation to personal care.

Skills and experience required
Essential:
An understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding responsibilities.
An understanding of learning disabilities and how this may impact young people.
An ability to remain calm in challenging situations, responding to the immediate needs of the child.
Excellent communication skills.
Patience, resilience and intuition.
Driving licence preferred.

Hours of work
You will be required to work approximately 8 hours per week on Saturdays and Sundays in term time and 16 hours per week during the school holidays. These hours can be flexible and mutually agreed.
The rate of pay is £13.25 per hour and £19.25 per hour on bank holidays (due to be reviewed)
Shorter hours could be considered to be split between 2 personal assistants.

A full DBS will be carried out.
