Summary

What skills and experience we're looking for

Heather Garth Primary Academy is a welcoming, inclusive primary school seeking to appoint an enthusiastic NQT and dedicated Foundation Stage 1 Teacher to join our Early Years team on a temporary basis. There may be an opportunity for the post to become permanent, subject to staffing needs and funding.

We are looking for a passionate practitioner who understands the importance of early childhood education and can provide a nurturing, stimulating environment where every child feels safe, valued, and inspired to learn.

• Has Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Has experience or strong understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework

• Works effectively as part of a team

Post Title: Foundation Stage 1 Teacher (Temporary) NQT

Responsible To: Headteacher / EYFS Leader Salary: Main Pay Scale (MPS) Contract: Temporary Fixed Term

Job Purpose

To deliver high-quality teaching and learning within Foundation Stage 1 (Nursery), supporting children’s development across all areas of the EYFS curriculum and ensuring a safe, inclusive,

and stimulating learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

• Plan, deliver, and assess learning in line with the EYFS statutory framework
• Provide engaging, play-based learning opportunities
• Support children’s personal, social, emotional, and academic development
• Use assessment effectively to inform planning and next steps
• Create a stimulating indoor and outdoor learning environment
• Promote early language development and communication skills


Assessment and Progress

• Observe, assess, and record children’s learning and development
• Maintain accurate records in line with school policies
• Contribute to progress reports and parent consultations
• Identify and support children with additional needs
• Safeguarding and Welfare


• Safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils
• Follow school safeguarding and child protection procedures
• Support children’s wellbeing, independence, and self-confidence


Partnership with Parents


• Build strong relationships with parents and carers
• Communicate children’s learning and development effectively
• Support home-school learning partnerships


Professional Responsibilities


• Work collaboratively with EYFS staff and support staff
• Participate in staff meetings, training, and school events
• Contribute to the wider life of the school
• Uphold Teachers’ Standards and school policies

Criteria Essential

Qualifications


• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)



• Relevant teaching qualification


Experience


• Experience teaching in Early Years or Foundation Stage



• Knowledge of EYFS curriculum and assessment


Knowledge & Skills


• Understanding of child development (ages 3–5)



• Strong behaviour management skills



• Ability to plan creative and inclusive learning



• Good communication and teamwork skills



• Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion


Personal Qualities


• Warm, nurturing approach



• Enthusiastic and reflective practitioner



• Flexible and adaptable



• Commitment to raising standards for all children


Desirable Criteria


• Experience in Nursery (FS1)



• Knowledge of phonics and early language development



• Experience supporting SEND pupils



• Experience working with parents and multi-agency professionals



• Paediatric First Aid trained
