About the Role
An established UK-based organisation within the distribution sector is seeking a Customs and Excise Co-ordinator to join its growing compliance function. This role plays a key part in ensuring full adherence to UK and international customs and excise regulations across depot operations.
The successful candidate will support day-to-day customs and excise activities, working closely with warehouse, logistics, and commercial teams to maintain compliance, accuracy, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit customs and excise documentation to HMRC and relevant third parties, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Distribute customs and excise documentation to internal teams and external supply chain stakeholders
- Support goods-in and goods-out processes, ensuring all activities align with customs and excise regulations
- Monitor warehouse movements of controlled goods, including tracking, reconciliation, and submission of HMRC returns
- Maintain a register of customer authorisations and licences, including managing sales blocks within ERP systems
- Reconcile depot stock of controlled goods against declared movements and support periodic excise submissions
- Provide guidance internally on the handling, storage, and sale of controlled or excisable goods
- Maintain accurate product master data within ERP systems, including commodity codes, country of origin, and excise classifications
- Collate and maintain documentation to support compliance audits and regulatory inspections
- Assist with depot-level audits and contribute to continuous improvement in compliance performance
- Support wider customs and excise projects, including system and process enhancements
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in customs, logistics, supply chain, or a regulatory compliance role
- Working knowledge of UK import/export regulations and HMRC customs requirements
- Experience handling duty-suspended excise goods or working in controlled warehouse environments is advantageous
- Strong attention to detail with high standards of record-keeping and documentation
- Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g. SAP or similar) would be beneficial
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
