About the Role

An established UK-based organisation within the distribution sector is seeking a Customs and Excise Co-ordinator to join its growing compliance function. This role plays a key part in ensuring full adherence to UK and international customs and excise regulations across depot operations.

The successful candidate will support day-to-day customs and excise activities, working closely with warehouse, logistics, and commercial teams to maintain compliance, accuracy, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Distribute customs and excise documentation to internal teams and external supply chain stakeholders
  • Support goods-in and goods-out processes, ensuring all activities align with customs and excise regulations
  • Monitor warehouse movements of controlled goods, including tracking, reconciliation, and submission of HMRC returns
  • Maintain a register of customer authorisations and licences, including managing sales blocks within ERP systems
  • Reconcile depot stock of controlled goods against declared movements and support periodic excise submissions
  • Provide guidance internally on the handling, storage, and sale of controlled or excisable goods

  • Collate and maintain documentation to support compliance audits and regulatory inspections

  • Support wider customs and excise projects, including system and process enhancements

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in customs, logistics, supply chain, or a regulatory compliance role
  • Working knowledge of UK import/export regulations and HMRC customs requirements
  • Experience handling duty-suspended excise goods or working in controlled warehouse environments is advantageous
  • Strong attention to detail with high standards of record-keeping and documentation
  • Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g. SAP or similar) would be beneficial
