JOB TITLE: Specialty Doctor in general adult psychiatry – Havering Mental Wellness Team North (MHWT-N) CONTRACT:10 Programmed Activities (10 PAs) Substantive or Fixed Term (as preferred) Flexible working available – including job share, part-time, remote sessions considered BASE:137 – 145 Church Road, Harold Wood, RM3OSH Post and Specialty: This post is for a Specialty Doctor position in General Adult Psychiatry in the Havering Mental Wellness Team North (MHWT-N), based at Church Road, Harold Wood, RM3 0SH. The role combines direct patient care and collaboration across the care pathway for mental health patients. In the course of your work, you will help shape service development, support staff and champion the Trust values of kindness, respect, and partnership with communities. Job Title: Community Adult Consultant Psychiatrist This is a full-time post for a Specialty Doctor in General Adult Psychiatry in a well-established Community service with an excellent, stable and well-resourced multidisciplinary team. This is a full-time substantive post, but we would consider flexible working, job share or fixed term if preferred. It is a post with 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) with 7.5 Direct Clinical Contact activities (DCC) and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs). Rationale for post: This is a well-established post, which has become vacant as the previous postholder went into the Senior Trainee Training programme. A lot of transformation has taken place already and continues to take place in Havering’s adult mental health services over the past few years. We wish to recruit to this post as soon as possible. This is a replacement, substantive, full-time post - 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) post with 8 Direct Clinical Contact activities (DCC) and 2 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs). On-call responsibilities: The post does not currently include on call responsibilities. If Section 12 approved, there is an expectation that the post holder will join a rota for all Section 12 approved doctors in the Trust to be available for assessments of patients detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act, during normal working hours. This will entail being available to attend the Section 136 suite at Goodmayes Hospital on approximately 2 days per year. Accountability: The postholder will be professionally accountable to the Chief Medical Officer via the Associate Medical Director for Havering and operationally accountable to both the Associate Medical Director (Dr Olumide Adeotoye) and the Integrated Care Director (Irvine Muronzi) and ultimately the Chief Executive Officer. 1.2 Main responsibilities The post holder would have completed foundation training and preferably worked in adult psychiatry for one or two years, committed to a culture of care and collaborative working in the team. Work directly with adult patients and their families and liaise as appropriate with inpatient, crisis and other members of the multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing care to adults with mental health needs who are registered with a GP Practice located in the northern part of the London Borough of Havering (plus a small number of patients who reside in that part of the Borough, but whose GP is elsewhere). The Medical staffing in the team consists of: • 3 whole time equivalent (wte) Consultants • 2 wte SAS Doctor • 1 wte Core/GP Trainee We receive Year 4 medical students on clinical placement from Barts & The London School of Medicine, Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL) as well as Physician Associate students from QMUL and Anglia Ruskin University. General Duties • Organise and prioritise own workload in line with Trust protocols, under the supervision of the consultant psychiatrist. •To cover for other medical staff when necessary and to provide cross cover for other Specialty Doctors within the Team • To have organisational knowledge relating to Trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them. •To be responsible for providing accurate records of information required by the Trust for audit purposes. •To ensure effective risk management at team level by accident/incident reporting, assessing, and controlling risk and ensuring residual risks are added to the Trust’s risk register. Training & Supervision • Provide clinical supervision and education to team doctors, promoting high standards of care. • Maintain personal professional development and support a culture of lifelong learning. Undertake regular appraisal and maintain a personal development plan. Facilitate integration of new staff and support team-wide training initiatives. Education To follow good medical practice standards in documenting all assessments of patients and to share necessary information with other health professionals. To provide reports on time. To ensure that all letters and summaries are checked and sent promptly to referring GPs, other colleagues, and agencies. The post holder will ensure that accurate and up to date records are kept of all clinical activity. The post holder will be expected to have good IT skills and to use the Trust’s electronic case record system.
