Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead complex engineering programmes within the space, defence, and satellite communications sectors.

This role is ideal for a technically strong leader who thrives in highly regulated environments and can drive projects from concept through to delivery, ensuring alignment with technical, financial, and quality objectives.

The Role

You will take full ownership of projects across their lifecycle, acting as the central point of accountability for delivery. Working with multidisciplinary teams, you will successfully manage scope, schedule, budget, and quality, while maintaining strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Manage the end-to-end delivery of complex engineering projects
  • Ensure projects meet scope, timeline, budget, and quality requirements
  • Act as the focal point for project performance internally and externally

Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain relationships with customers, partners, and internal teams
  • Present project updates, reports, and reviews to senior stakeholders

Financial Management

  • Oversee budgets, forecasting, and cost tracking
  • Ensure delivery aligns with financial objectives

Planning & Execution

  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, and risk assessments
  • Monitor progress and implement corrective actions where required

Team Leadership

  • Lead cross-functional teams across engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and quality
  • Foster collaboration, accountability, and high performance

Risk Management

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate both technical and programme risks
  • Maintain proactive risk management practices

Business Development Support

  • Support bid and proposal activities
  • Contribute to technical and commercial aspects of new opportunities

About You (Essential Criteria)

  • Proven track record delivering complex engineering projects in space, defence, or satellite communications
  • Experience working with RF-based systems (e.g., satellite communications, radar, EW systems, payloads)
  • Strong engineering background or experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams
  • Experience within regulated environments
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
  • Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, Jira)
  • Knowledge of methodologies such as Agile, Waterfall, PRINCE2, or APMP
  • Eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC)

Desirable Experience

  • Experience as a Project Engineering Lead
  • Familiarity with space payload qualification and defence standards
