Health Care Assistant – Domiciliary Care

Location: Barbon, near Carnforth in Cumbria (LA6 2LP) and surrounding areas

Job Purpose

The Health Care Assistant will provide person-centred domiciliary care to adults within their own homes in Barbon, near Carnforth in Cumbria (LA6 2LP) and surrounding localities.

The role focuses on supporting service users with evening and daily living routines, promoting dignity, comfort, safety, independence, and wellbeing through compassionate and outcome-focused care.

Care is delivered in accordance with:

Individual Care Plans
Risk Assessments and Moving & Handling Plans
Medication Administration Records (MAR)
Local Authority commissioned care packages
Provider governance and compliance policies
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Personal Care and Support

The Health Care Assistant will provide support with:

Assisting service users with using the commode
Continence care and pad changes
Assisting with changing into nightwear
Supporting service users to safely get into bed
Meal and lunch preparation
Encouraging hydration and nutritional intake
Promoting dignity, privacy, and independence at all times
Monitoring wellbeing and reporting any concerns promptly
Providing reassurance, companionship, and emotional support
Health and Safety Responsibilities
Follow all Moving & Handling risk assessments
Use safe working practices within service users’ homes
Maintain infection prevention and control standards
Report accidents, incidents, safeguarding concerns, or deterioration immediately
Maintain accurate daily care records and documentation
Adhere to GDPR and confidentiality requirements
Safeguarding Responsibilities
Safeguard vulnerable adults from abuse or neglect
Follow Cumbria safeguarding procedures
Escalate concerns immediately to management
Maintain professional boundaries at all times
Working Arrangements

This role involves lone working within service users’ homes across small village of Barbon, near Carnforth in Cumbria (LA6 2LP).

Travel between service users may be required depending on care package allocation and rota scheduling.

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable due to the geographical spread of domiciliary care visits.

Pay and Employment Conditions
Hourly Rate: £15.00 per hour

Person Specification
Essential
Right to work in the UK
Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain)
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to follow care plans and risk assessments
Commitment to person-centred care and safeguarding
Desirable
Previous domiciliary care experience
NVQ/QCF Level 2 or Level 3 in Health and Social Care
Driving licence and access to a vehicle
