Summary


We are looking for an experienced nurse to join our team in a busy central London teaching hospital as a Band 6 Deputy Charge Nurse in the Emergency Department. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced Emergency Nurse to join one of the largest and most successful Foundation Trusts in the UK with an international reputation and a tradition of innovation.  We have almost completed our £21.7 million re-development of our Emergency department where we have increased our Majors and Rapid Assessment Treatment (RAT) bays in order to improve services for our growing number of patients as the Department provides ready access to emergency nursing for over 142,000 patients a year.

We have a very friendly and supportive team which is led by two Senior Nurses and a Matron.  You will be working alongside a Consultant Nurse and a team of accredited advanced clinical practitioners (ACPs) as well Emergency Nurse Practitioners (ENPs) as part of the team.

When in charge, you will be responsible for ensuring the management and supervision of the nursing staff in within the ED during your shift along with the Consultant in Charge of the department. You will assist the Senior Nurse and Charge Nurses in leading the nursing staff in ensuring quality of care and meeting and sustaining performance against the Care Quality Indicators ( CQI’s) for Emergency Services You will assist the Senior Nurse and Charge Nurses to ensure the educational needs of the ED are met.In the event of a major incident (MAJAX) you will be responsible for assisting in the co-ordination of the ED response.

1. Professional Conduct: Work according to the NMC Code and relevant guidelines as a named nurse, ensuring high standards of patient care, assessing nursing and health education needs, and managing care programs, including discharge planning.

1. Ward Management: Act as a deputy for ward organization and management, developing skills in ward/department management and providing leadership in the absence of the senior sister/charge nurse.

1. Strategy Implementation: Promote and implement UCLH Nursing & Midwifery strategy and Core Standards, contributing to the Trust’s “Top 10” Objectives.

1. Quality Initiatives: Develop and implement Audit, Quality, and Risk Management initiatives.

1. Teaching and Mentoring: Teach, facilitate, mentor, and precept student nurses, participating in clinical supervision programs.


Key Working Relationships


Work alongside Band 6.5 and Band 7 nurses, supported by a Band 7 Team Leader, Matron, and Senior Nurses. Manage a team of Band 3 Nursing Assistants and Band 5 and 6 nurses. Collaborate with the clinical practice facilitator team for staff training and development. Build relationships with the ED medical team, management team, and senior operations team.
