Summary

CNC / Vertical Boring Milling (VBM / Tracer) Operator

My client:

Our client is highly experienced delivering high-quality machining, manufacturing, and engineering solutions across demanding industries. As a family-run business, they specialise in bespoke engineering work, including tyre mould manufacture, repair and refurbishment, CNC machining, and large-scale vertical and horizontal boring.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced CNC Miller/ Vertical Boring Milling (VBM / Tracer) Operator to join our workshop team in Newton Aycliffe.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who can confidently read engineering drawings, set and operate machinery, and machine bespoke components to high standards. The work is varied, ranging from one-off components and repair work to precision-machined parts for specialist engineering applications.

As every job is different, the successful candidate must be adaptable, quality-focused, and capable of working independently within a skilled engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate Vertical Boring Milling (VBM / Tracer) machinery safely and efficiently
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications accurately
  • Manufacture, repair, and machine bespoke components to required tolerances
  • Machine a variety of materials and large components as required
  • Carry out machine set-up, tooling changes, and adjustments to meet job specifications
  • Inspect completed work to ensure quality and dimensional accuracy
  • Support repair and refurbishment work where required
  • Work closely with colleagues to deliver quality engineering solutions for customers
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workshop safety
  • Proven experience operating Vertical Boring Milling / Tracer machinery
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
  • Experience working in a bespoke or jobbing engineering environment preferred
  • Strong understanding of machining processes and tolerances
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative

Hours of work/pay rate:

  • Monday to Thursday - day shift only
  • 07:00am - 16:15pm
  • Salary is £16:00per hour
  • Temp to perm for the right person
