Department : Ward 2A/Medical SDEC

Band 2 / Band 3 pro rata if part-time

Hours: Full time/Part time hours available, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and highly motivated Senior Healthcare Assistant to join our dynamic Acute Medical team. This role offers the opportunity to work within either Ward 2A, a busy short-stay acute medical ward with a focus on renal and emergency care, or within our Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Medical service.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast-paced, patient-centred environment, where you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, responsive care. You will support patients requiring urgent assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, helping to ensure they receive timely care without the need for hospital admission wherever possible.

Working alongside a dedicated multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to improving patient flow, enhancing patient experience, and maintaining the highest standards of care. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic setting, is passionate about acute medicine, and is committed to making a meaningful difference in patients’ lives.

Under the supervision of Registered staff, the role of the Senior Healthcare Assistant is to undertake delegated clinical care duties, assist the nursing team and support Healthcare Assistants in the delivery of safe effective care to the patient.

• Undertake/assist patients with personal care duties as needed including bathing, toileting, dressing and feeding. Ensure privacy and dignity is maintained.
• Assess patient condition and wellbeing through clinical observations and test results, looking for signs of agitation or distress, reporting any concerns with patient condition to a senior member of staff, in accordance with the department’s escalation process.
• Assist in the meeting of patient’s nutritional needs, ensuring patients who require assistance at mealtimes have a red tray.
• Assist in skin and pressure area care. Under the supervision of registered nurses ensure patients are helped to move position to prevent discomfort and/ pressure damage.
• Undertake clinical duties and record patient observations as requested by a registered professional, this could include taking blood pressure, blood glucose monitoring, basic wound dressing changes, undertaking venepuncture and removing cannulas, sutures and catheters.
• To complete relevant documentation, including updating patient records with patient information such as fluid balance, nutrition, height and weight, as necessary.

• To act at all times in a professional and courteous manner.
• To ensure compliance with mandatory training.
• To participate in the Trust’s appraisal system be involved in continuous development, keeping up to date knowledge on the Healthcare Assistant’s role.
• To participate in department meetings as appropriate.
• To uphold the Trust Values.
• To promote the importance of good clinical practice throughout the ward/department, acting as an ambassador for high standards and good patient care at all times.
