English Teacher - September Start
Location: Barnet, North London
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed English Teacher to join a high-achieving, mainstream secondary school in Barnet from September. Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging and challenging English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 (Key Stage 5 experience desirable but not essential)
Assess, monitor, and report on student progress in line with school policies
Differentiate teaching to meet the needs of all learners
Contribute to curriculum development within the English department
Maintain high expectations for behaviour and academic achievement
Participate in departmental meetings, parents’ evenings, and whole-school events
Support students’ personal development and uphold the school’s values
Requirements:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential
Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
A degree in English or a related subject
Strong subject knowledge and a passion for literature and language
Excellent classroom management skills
A commitment to high standards and student success
Ability to work collaboratively within a team
Working Pattern
The school operates a distinctive timetable:
Monday–Thursday: first taught lesson begins approximately 12:20–12:25; staff are expected on site from around 11:00
Friday: starts at approximately 11:15 and finishes at around 12:30 during two terms, or 3:00pm in the final term
