Hays Education is proud to be recruiting on behalf of a good secondary school in South Yorkshire for a dedicated and ambitious Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo). This is a permanent leadership opportunity for an experienced teacher who is passionate about inclusion and committed to improving outcomes for students with additional needs.
The roleAs SENCo, you will provide strategic leadership for SEND provision across the school, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure that all students receive high-quality, inclusive support. You will play a pivotal role in shaping policy, practice and culture to ensure that pupils with SEND are fully supported to achieve their potential.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategic leadership of SEND provision across the secondary age range
  • Oversight of EHCPs, SEND reviews and statutory compliance
  • Development, implementation and evaluation of inclusive teaching practices
  • Line management and development of SEND and support staff
  • Working closely with teachers to support high-quality, adaptive classroom practice
  • Liaising with parents, carers, external agencies and local authorities
  • Monitoring progress and impact to ensure positive outcomes for students with SEND

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • The National Award for SEN Coordination (or a commitment to complete it)
  • Experience of leading or coordinating SEND provision in a secondary setting
  • Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation
  • Excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills
  • A commitment to inclusive education and continuous school improvement
