Part Time Variable Hours Exam Invigilator (Reader/Prompt/Scribe/Invigilator)Hours: Part time variableHourly rate: £15.74 per hour inclusive of holiday pay* Plus generous benefit including:Generous Occupational Pension Scheme*the base hourly rate is £13.45 per hour, plus holiday pay, which gives an approximate hourly rate of £15.74 per hour.About the roleWe are seeking reliable and dedicated staff to support the smooth running of our examinations. The role involves providing tailored support for students with Exam Access Arrangements, including reading, prompting, and scribing, to ensure they can perform to the best of their ability. You will prepare the examination room before candidates arrive, maintain full awareness of exam regulations, and supervise candidates with complete attention throughout each session. Responsibilities include completing attendance registers, reporting absences, following emergency procedures, collating and organising exam scripts, returning unused stationery, and ensuring the exam room is left tidy. You will also prepare scripts for dispatch to awarding bodies and carry out all duties in line with College policies on Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, Quality Assurance, financial procedures, and data protection. Training required by the College will be provided and must be completed as part of the role.About the PersonYork College Exam Support Invigilators play a key role in the delivery of both internal and external examinations, ensuring that all JCQ and Awarding Organisation regulations are rigorously followed. Working closely with the Exams team, you will help maintain the integrity, fairness, and smooth running of the examination process.For reading support, you must be able to read clearly in a neutral, consistent tone, without conveying emotion or personal interpretation. It is essential to remain mindful of others in the exam room, using a quiet and controlled voice that does not cause disruption.As a scribe, you will provide calm, objective, and accurate written support, helping to create a reassuring environment while strictly adhering to examination rules. You will produce a precise record of the student’s dictated responses without altering or influencing their content. Clear handwriting and the ability to write at an appropriate, steady pace are essential.About the CollegeYork College & University Centre is the largest further education college in the region, offering a comprehensive range of courses from Entry Level to degree level.
