School Science Technician – Sudbury
Full-Time | Temporary – Immediate Start | Ongoing cover for staff absence

We are looking for a motivated and reliable Science Technician to join a well-established Science Department at a school in the Sudbury area. This is a full-time temporary position with an immediate start, providing cover for a current staff absence.

Essential Requirements:
• Recent experience working as a Science or Laboratory Technician in a school or college setting.
• A current Enhanced DBS certificate.
• Availability to start immediately.

The successful candidate should hold a science qualification at A-level or equivalent. Previous laboratory or technician experience is desirable. Applicants should demonstrate strong technical ability in preparing laboratory materials, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment and machinery.

Experience working with young people, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team are essential.

Role Purpose:
The Science Technician will support teachers in delivering practical elements of the curriculum. The role involves preparing classrooms, laboratory equipment, and materials, ensuring that teaching and learning take place in a safe, efficient, and well-organised environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Working under the supervision of the Head of Department (HoD), the Science Technician will:
• Maintain science equipment and carry out basic repairs, arranging external repairs or replacements where required.
• Prepare equipment and materials for demonstrations, experiments, and practical lessons for teachers and students.
• Ensure laboratories and equipment are cleaned, cleared, and reset after use, including dealing with chemical spills where necessary.
• Maintain the safe storage and handling of laboratory equipment in accordance with health and safety regulations.
• Manage the safe disposal of chemicals, including potentially hazardous substances such as radioactive materials, in line with safety guidelines.
• Work closely with teaching staff to support lesson preparation and the development of curriculum activities.
• Provide guidance and practical assistance to students, ensuring that safe laboratory practices are followed at all times.
