About the job.


National Highways has an exciting opportunity within the Midlands region for a Technology Engineer, working with a variety of specialist stakeholders and assisting with the identification of roadside technology asset needs and development of initial solutions for the asset class in scope, while assuring adherence to defined asset policies and standards.


This position will be based from our Birmingham or Nottingham offices with a balance of remote and office-based work.


Please note that you will be required to drive as part of your role, and you will need to have no more than 3 points to be considered for this position and during employment.



  • Provide support to the Senior Engineers in the team with regards to the development of roadside technology schemes, to include the compiling of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management, taking into account roadside technology standards, equipment specifications, buildability and costs.

  • Assisting with the collation, identification and evaluation of asset data to develop initial solutions, to agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria.

  • Supporting other highway engineering disciplines with roadside technology asset knowledge and database information.

  • Drafting work briefs for mobilising design and construction contractors.

  • Reviewing Scheme Asset Reports (SARs), handover into maintenance packages (as-built drawings, testing documentation, equipment fault reports) and cross-checking against highway asset databases.


About you.



  • Degree / HNC / HND in an Engineering discipline with experience in a transport or technology setting

  • Knowledge of roadside technology assets / ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems)

  • Experience in producing technical reports and spreadsheets

  • AutoCAD experience

  • Good communication, stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
