Own the payroll. Protect the detail. Support the business. Build your future with Lords.
Are you a senior payroll professional who combines technical excellence with a strong controls mindset?
Do you want a role where payroll is seen as a critical finance function — not just a process?
We’re looking for a Payroll Manager to take full ownership of payroll across Head Office and our multi-site merchanting
businesses. This is a high-profile role, working closely with the Group Financial Controller and supporting both operational and
corporate stakeholders in a fast-moving, commercially focused environment.
You’ll ensure every payroll is accurate, compliant, audit-ready and delivered on time — while providing the insight and governance
expected within an AIM-listed Group.
What you’ll be doing
* Owning the end-to-end monthly payroll for multiple entities, working with our outsourced payroll provider
* Ensuring full compliance with HMRC, PAYE, NIC, RTI, auto-enrolment and statutory reporting
* Managing starters, leavers, pay changes, bonuses, overtime and deductions
* Overseeing pensions, P11Ds, year-end processes and P60s
* Producing payroll journals, cost analysis and labour reporting for Finance
* Reviewing and clearing payroll-to-GL reconciliations across the Group
* Supporting internal and external audits and maintaining strong financial controls
* Acting as the key point of contact for HR, branch managers, HMRC, pension providers and Treasury
* Ensuring robust governance processes, including timely removal of leavers from banking access
* Driving continuous improvement, system enhancements and process standardisation
* Providing expert support on payroll queries, NMW calculations and redundancy checks
What we’re looking for
* Proven Payroll Manager / Senior Payroll professional experience
* Experience running payroll in a multi-site, multi-entity organisation
* Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC compliance
* A controls-first mindset with exceptional attention to detail
* Confident managing multiple payroll cycles and deadlines
* Strong understanding of payroll accounting, reconciliations and reporting
* Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
* Excellent stakeholder management across operational and head office teams
Desirable:
* CIPP qualification
* Experience in merchanting, retail, distribution, manufacturing or similar operational environments
* Exposure to an AIM-listed or regulated business
Location: Head Office – London W5
Hours: 9am-5.30pm Mon-Fri
Salary range: £45,000-£50,000 per annum
This role is about far more than processing payroll. You’ll be the person who protects compliance, strengthens governance and
delivers audit-ready processes, while providing the insight Finance needs to support a complex, people-heavy operational business.
If you’re ready to take real ownership and make a visible impact, we’d love to hear from you.
