Hull City Council is introducing an exciting new role within our Organisational Development & HR service: Employment Relations Investigation Officer. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking team dedicated to strengthening our employee experience, supporting managers, and ensuring we deliver consistently high employment standards across the organisation.
About the Role
As an Employment Relations Investigation Officer, you will play a central role in supporting the delivery of fair, consistent and timely employment relations casework. You will lead and conduct high-quality investigations into a range of employment related matters including disciplinary, grievance and other complex people issues.
You will work closely with managers, OD & HR colleagues and Trade Union representatives to ensure that cases are handled professionally, sensitively, and in line with policy, legislation and best practice. This is a hands on role that offers real scope to influence how we embed positive employee relations and strengthen our culture across the Council.
What You’ll Be Doing

Undertaking comprehensive investigations into employee relations cases, producing clear, balanced and evidence-based reports.
Advising managers on investigation processes, best practice and procedural requirements.
Gathering evidence through interviews, document review and data analysis while maintaining confidentiality and neutrality.
Supporting the development of consistent employment relations practice across the organisation.
Contributing to continuous improvement of policies, procedures and manager capability.
Promoting a positive, collaborative working environment aligned with the Council's values.

About You
We’re looking for someone who is:

Experienced in HR, employment relations, or investigative work (inside or outside local government).
Skilled in managing sensitive and complex cases with fairness and professionalism.
An excellent communicator, able to build trust, engage with stakeholders and present findings clearly.
Highly organised, detail-focused and able to work independently.
Confident in applying employment law, policy and best practice (or eager to develop further in this area).
Above all, you will bring integrity, sound judgement and a commitment to supporting a positive employee experience.
