Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join a key project at the Port of Blyth, supporting the installation and operation of a crawler used for trenching and laying utility cables. The role requires a skilled tradesperson capable of installing new parts, refurbishing equipment, and performing mechanical maintenance in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build, assemble, and maintain the crawler and associated mechanical equipment.
- Install and replace components, including internal gears and seals (trade test will be required).
- Operate equipment safely in line with project procedures.
- Interpret and work from engineering drawings and specifications.
- Conduct fault diagnostics, repair, and general maintenance on mechanical systems.
- Perform rigging tasks as required for equipment installation and movement.
- Work under health and safety guidelines, ensuring all tasks meet industry and project standards.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, inspections, and maintenance activities.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter, ideally in civil, utility, or heavy plant projects.
- Overhead Crane Ticket and rigging experience essential.
- MJI / TMJI certifications required.
- Ability to read and work from engineering drawings.
- Skilled in fitting, fault finding, and mechanical assembly.
- Able to complete a trade test on internal gears and seals.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience working with crawlers, trenching machines, or heavy plant.
- Prior exposure to civil utility or infrastructure projects.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
