Summary
For further information on this role, please see the attached detailed Job Description and Person Specification Provide clinical leadership and maintain credibility through practice and professional update. Practice evidence based nursing care to ensure high quality care Act as an expert nurse and resource for patients, families and staff. Admit and discharge or transfer patients as their needs require. Undertake advanced clinical assessments of acutely unwell oncology patients to enable prompt assessment, diagnosis and treatment according to agreed policies, protocols and guidelines. Order and interpret blood tests and initiate appropriate action as required. Order diagnostic tests and imaging as appropriate. To complete documentation relating to patient care and ensure that staff maintain and update documentation as changes occur according to Trust policy. To encourage nursing staff through role modelling to apply critical thinking through the process of clinical assessment of patients or problem solving. To then follow this process through the planning and evaluation stages of patient care and to effectively document this process in the patient records. To liaise and work closely with relevant multi-disciplinary team members, including Medical Consultants, Clinical Nurse Specialists in the provision of professional cancer nursing service. To provide support for anxious patients and/ or relatives demonstrating empathy and understanding in a professional manner. Provide empathetic support when involved in the process of giving patients and/ or relatives bad news e.g. informing patients/ relatives of changes of condition.
