About the Role
Sugarman Health and Wellbeing seeks a Compassionate Care Assistant to support a woman living with Lewy Body Dementia, Charles Bonnet Syndrome (visual hallucinations), and severe visual impairment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing reassurance and emotional support during distressing hallucinations.
- Assisting with personal care, meal preparation, and mobility support (due to chronic knee pain and a previous leg fracture).
- Using a calm, patient, and consistent approach to prevent escalation in agitation.
- Supporting orientation and communication.
- Administering prescribed pain relief as needed.
- Working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic care.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for individuals who are empathetic, resilient, and experienced in dementia care. Ideally, you will have:
- Experience supporting individuals with dementia (Lewy Body Dementia preferred) and/or visual impairments.
- Ability to manage complex behaviours with patience and professionalism.
- Strong communication skills to reassure and de-escalate distress.
- Manual handling awareness (training provided).
- Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends/nights if required.
- Driver not essential but desirable
Desirable:
- Training in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) or dementia care.
- Understanding of Charles Bonnet Syndrome and mental health needs.
