About the Role
We are seeking an Electrical Technician to join Serco at Darent Valley Hospital. In this role, you will carry out planned and reactive electrical maintenance, as well as some mechanical tasks, ensuring the hospital’s essential services run safely and reliably. You will be the first response to urgent issues, working as part of a multi-skilled estates team to keep critical systems operating for patients, staff and visitors.
Your work will have a direct impact on patient care – from maintaining power supplies and building systems, to responding to alarms and ensuring safe environments across the hospital.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver planned preventative maintenance and respond to reactive issues efficiently.
Diagnose and repair faults in electrical equipment and systems.
Install and maintain electrical circuits, pumps, outlets and lighting.
Support building services including lifts, fire alarms, sterilisation equipment and environmental controls.
Work as part of the fire response team and ensure health and safety standards are always met.
Additional Features of the Role
This is a demanding but rewarding position where your decisions and actions directly affect the safety and comfort of patients, staff and visitors. You will be expected to work flexibly, including unsociable hours, and adapt quickly when priorities change. At times you will work independently, making critical judgements under pressure to meet challenging deadlines.
You will need to:
Understand and work within the Performance Management System, completing tasks within required timescales to avoid penalties.
Balance competing demands and disrupted work patterns, using sound judgement to prioritise effectively.
Maintain professionalism while working around vulnerable patients and members of the public.
What You’ll Need
- Recognised CITB apprenticeship or equivalent (minimum NVQ Level 3).
- ONC in Electrical Engineering or City & Guilds Craft Certificate (or similar).
- 16th Edition IEE Regulations.
- Flexibility to work shifts and additional hours when required.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently under pressure.
