About the Role
MAUK is looking for an experienced and motivated Principal to lead the London Academy of Dravidian Arts (LADA). LADA is a weekend performing arts academy that teaches and promotes Dravidian art forms including dance, music, drama and martial arts.
Although most classes take place on weekends, this is a full-time role of 37.5 hours per week. The Principal will oversee all aspects of the academy including artistic direction, operations, staffing, safeguarding, administration, community engagement and long-term planning.
This role offers the opportunity to help shape a growing arts academy with a strong cultural mission and a clear vision for the future.
Main Duties
Leadership and Operations
Oversee the day-to-day running of the academy including weekend and evening activities
Ensure classes, rehearsals, assessments and events run smoothly
Lead on safeguarding, health and safety and quality standards
Support teachers with timetables, resources and classroom needs
Manage student admissions, enquiries, attendance and records
Quality and Curriculum
Monitor teaching quality and support staff development
Coordinate assessments, exams and student progress reviews
Support updates to lesson plans and activity programmes
Encourage creativity, performance opportunities and skill development
Community and Engagement
Build positive relationships with students, parents, teachers and volunteers
Represent the academy at events and community activities
Promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment

Manage schedules, staffing, budgets and resource allocation
Lead on planning for performances, festivals and presentations
Prepare development plans and reports for MAUK leadership
Support recruitment of teachers and volunteers

Contribute to the long-term vision of LADA
Identify opportunities to expand classes, partnerships and student numbers
Support marketing and promotional activity for the academy
Person Specification
Essential
Experience in arts education or arts organisation management
Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills
Good understanding of South Asian or Dravidian performing arts
Ability to work well with a diverse team
Able to work in a fast-paced environment focused on weekend delivery
Relevant degree or equivalent qualification in arts, education, management or a related field
Knowledge of school or academy administration
Understanding of health and safety responsibilities in an educational setting
Experience using school management or operational systems
Desirable
Experience coordinating performances or cultural events
Background as a performer or instructor in dance, music, drama or martial arts
Experience improving or developing educational programmes
Experience leading or managing a traditional art form academy such as Kalari
