Main Purpose of the Job:
To assist in the cooking and service of food for the pupils, staff and visitors at George Green’s School.
Main Responsibilities
•The post holder’s key responsibilities are, but not limited to:
Food preparation:
•To assist in the preparation of food as and when required.
•To make sandwiches / rolls etc.
•To prepare and cook vegetables as and when required.
•To fill the chiller cabinet as and when required.
•To assist cook or manager with any food preparation.
Food service:
•To assist customers when necessary, always being polite and courteous.
•To maintain high standards of presentation of food.
•To replenish counters throughout service.
•To control portion sizes and wastage.
•To be aware of menu items and prices.
•To serve food as and when required
Deliveries and stock:
•To assist with receiving and storing all food stock, putting away deliveries, putting away, labelling food,and stock rotation.
•To assist managers with stock taking and ordering if and when required.
•To alert managers in the event of stock run down or spoiled produce.
Hygiene and cleaning:
•To wash up and tidy up in between food preparation, during and after service periods.
•To be aware of hygiene regulations and constantly maintain high standards of health, safety and hygiene.
•To use the temperature probe supplied to check temperatures of food items prior and during food servicetimes.
•To regularly clean equipment and surfaces thoroughly.
•To dispose of rubbish as and when necessary.
Handling payment:
•To serve on tills as and when required.
•To ensure the correct recording of sales, Free School Meals, staff meals and duty staff meals.
•To refer to price lists and follow correct till procedures.
•To record any food items not paid for, or given away or for those cashless accounts in need of topping–up.
Health and safety:
•To follow all school policies on health and safety as outlined through training.
•To wear full uniform in all food areas with safe shoes provided which must be kept clean and smart.
•To operate delicate machinery only after full training is given.
Standards to be observed:
•Personal appearance and time keeping, in line with school policies relating to attendance, punctuality andabsence procedures.
•Degree of co-operation with work colleagues and customers.
•The skill, care and speed with which duties are performed.
•The tidiness and appearance of the unit at all times.
•Hygiene standards.
•The quality of food preparation.
•To cover any area in the establishment as and when required
