Your new company
Birmingham City Council is currently recruiting for temporary positions within their contact centre. These roles will provide valuable support across three different service areas, offering candidates the opportunity to gain experience in a dynamic environment.The successful applicants will begin their employment on 5th January 2026, ensuring they are ready to contribute to the council's services from the start of the new year.Interviews for these positions will take place in-office on 8th and 9th December 2025, giving shortlisted candidates the chance to meet with the recruitment team and learn more about the roles available.


Your new role
Birmingham City Council is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Temporary Customer Service Officers to support three key departments. As the first point of contact for their residents, you will play a vital role in delivering excellent customer service and ensuring queries are handled efficiently and professionally.This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience across multiple service areas, working in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. Key Responsibilities

  • Responding to customer enquiries via inbound calls.
  • Logging and tracking requests accurately using council systems.
  • Providing clear information and advice, signposting customers to the right services.
  • Supporting departmental teams with administrative tasks and case management.
  • Handling sensitive issues with empathy, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Ensuring all interactions reflect Birmingham City Council's commitment to high-quality service.

This role will offer an extensive training programme, which is a mixture of at-home and in-office and will run for roughly 8 weeks. Once you have passed the academy period, you will be able to work from home.

What you'll need to succeed
We are looking for candidates who are:

  • Excellent communicators with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Confident in handling a wide range of customer queries.
  • Organised and detail-oriented, with good IT skills.
  • Able to work flexibly across different departments.
  • Experienced in customer service (public sector experience desirable but not essential).



What you'll get in return
You will be offered a temporary position with the council on a 3-month rolling contract basis, dependent on performance. The Council frequently recruits on a permanent basis, so you will also have the opportunity to apply. The role is offering £14.12 per hour including holiday pay, and you will receive payment on a weekly basis.
