Summary

Are you seeking the opportunity to manage a critical function at the heart of Greater Manchester’s transport network? As a Control Centre Manager, you’ll provide tactical management to the Operational Control Centre (OCC). We are here to manage disruption and serious incidents across the transport network, ranging from managing traffic signals to significant issues on buses and trams. The team are responsible for overseeing activity on the entire Greater Manchester transport network 24/7. It’s a fast paced, exciting environment to work in where every shift is different. Your Role

The primary activities for this role are as Duty Manager for the Operational Control Centre, managing all operations across the Bee Network. You’ll be the central point for incident and event response, ensuring a customer centric focus at all times. Reporting to the Operational Control Centre Lead, you’ll play a pivotal role in maintaining the smooth running of Greater Manchester’s transport network, making dynamic decisions and providing support across TfGM operations to ensure smooth and efficient management of the Bee Network.

What will the role be doing?

As a Control Centre Manager, you’ll proactively oversee monitoring of all transport modes, use specialist systems to analyse complex data and make dynamic decisions, and report significant network and safety incidents to guide team and business responses.

You will provide leadership to a team operating on a 24/7 rotating shift schedule, ensuring consistent service delivery in accordance with established policies and procedures. You are expected to cultivate a respectful and inclusive workplace, oversee team development initiatives, and maintain a strong focus on customer service throughout all operations. Additionally, you will be responsible for driving professional growth within the team, implementing targeted training programs, and regularly reviewing departmental policies to ensure compliance with best practices and relevant legislation.

You be required to work on a shift rota basis with your colleagues, providing coverage 7 days a week. We operate a 8-week rota with varied shifts that cover a split of early, late and occasional twilight shifts. You’ll also get around 70% of weekends as planned rest days. There is a 16.3% shift allowance on top of the base salary for shift work. You will be provided with support through an extensive coaching and development framework covering the role of Control Centre Officer (your direct reports) and Control Centre Manager.

They are the central co-ordination point for the business in delivering effective operational incident management and a focal point for ensuring all business areas work together alongside stakeholders and partners in managing the network. It is essential for the role that you have knowledge of public transport and proven experience in a real time operational environment. You will also have a strong track record of incident management and also experience in multi-agency emergency situations. Experience of managing teams, preferably shift based teams in an operational environment, is desired. Experience and knowledge of using control room based operational systems and technology is highly desirable in conjunction with a passion for continuous improvement and change management as the OCC continues to develop against key organisational goals.

This is a permanent role with a salary of £47,539-£52,866 per annum depending on skills and experience, plus 16.3% shift pay
