The role

As Government Relations Team Manager, you will have a pivotal role in the centre of the organisation, leading a dynamic and exciting team who play a key role in helping to protect and maintain the Environment Agency’s reputation with Parliament, Government and some key external stakeholders.

You will lead the development and management of our relationships across Government departments providing direct advice and guidance to the Chair, Chief Executive, Executive Directors team, senior managers and staff on reputational and political issues.

The team

• brings together information to respond to parliamentary questions, debates, select committee & ministerial briefings
• advises on political engagement and provides political intelligence
• oversees EA's sponsorship relationship with Defra

Looking for a self-motivated individual who can manage a busy portfolio and deliver results through others from across the organisation on time and to a high standard. An experienced manager; customer focused, great communication skills, an excellent understanding of Government and Parliamentary processes.

Experience/skills required

You’ll have:

- good political judgement and awareness
- experience of gathering and interpreting intelligence and the ability to present this information appropriately
- ability to work well under pressure and with time constraints, knowing when to refer to colleagues for guidance and support.
- the ability to work closely with senior managers and foster a broad network of contacts across the business, building rapport and relationships quickly
- excellent written and verbal skills
- attention to detail and be capable of presenting data and information in a clear, comprehensible style.
- a good understanding of the Environment Agency’s business leadership team so you will work collaboratively with other managers across the department.

During major incidents you will play an important role supporting the Executive and Government Support Cell.
