Summary
Job Description
The post holder will coordinate and deliver STEM engagement activities, with a focus on Early and first stage curricular content (Curriculum for Excellence)) in Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) and Primary schools.
The post holder will contribute to the STEM learning ecosystem in the Moray area, to support a STEM skills educational pathway from Early level through to broad general education and beyond. This shall include working closely with the network of STEM starts Centres and associated resources and activities, contributing to the evolution of the STEM Learning programme for ELC settings, Schools and home learners Championing the mobile Outreach Service and associated Lending library of STEM materials, and contributing to the evolution of the STEM learning network.
The post holder will contribute to local STEM partnership meetings, ensuring local STEM plans are delivered and reported annually.
The post holder will prepare grant proposals to allow for the further development and expansion of the STEM Starts network and associated ecosystem.
The role contributes to the Education Strategy for Curriculum and Learning across Early and First level.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the STEM Starts learning ecosystem in Moray to deliver the annual operational and service objectives, outcomes and associated benefits, ensuring Moray Council and Scottish Government performance measures are realised.
Support the implementation of the STEM Starts strategy by working collaboratively with the STEM Starts and Library teams, to deliver service plans, meet milestones and timescales, and ensure successful delivery of activities and events.
Assist with STEM Starts Outreach Service, including the management of the STEM learning resources and curriculum.
Support the evolution of the STEM Starts learning Programme, to support the enhancement of STEM curriculum, learning and teaching provisions across Moray.
Contribute to the development and delivery of the annual STEM Starts Engagement programme. Contribute to the cultivation and stewardship of key relationships with a range of stakeholders, including those from the schools and ELC settings, communities, businesses, academic institutions and the third sector.
Support with the development of a Revenue funding stream, to enable the STEM Starts Initiative to be sustainable in future years.
The Individual
A strong background in early years education or a related field, preferably with experience in science education or STEM Learning
Experience of working in STEM engagement or science communication delivery in schools or equivalent environment
Experience of organising and delivering STEM engagement and community events, meeting agreed targets and timescales
Working in partnership with a variety of stakeholders to promote and develop programme of activities
Appropriate level of data protection, security and confidentiality awareness
Ability to understand, analyse and summarise information with good IT and social media skills.
Proven experience of analysing complex information to identify opportunities for improvements
A Degree or equivalent in a STEM related subject or the ability to demonstrate the equivalent relevant work experience
Or
Able to demonstrate expert knowledge within a specific area of the Curriculum for Excellence (early and first level) in a STEM related subject
Knowledge of, and ability to work effectively within, relevant child protection legislation and practice.
Self-confident, self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team
Appreciation, acceptance of and a commitment to confidentiality
Ability to use Microsoft Office suite inc. Word, Excel and Teams or equivalent
Ability to maintain accurate records and write reports.
Ability to manage and evolve a comprehensive science engagement programme. This will include the development of a variety of events for young learners, educators and public audiences and the ability to present the Science concepts to a young audience in an interesting, entertaining, fun and engaging way.
Ability to prepare detailed reports and project/budget plans.
Demonstrable critical analysis skills
Good logistical skills to plan and organise meetings, events and workshops.
Ability to teach problem solving skills.
Ability to adapt teaching sessions to unplanned events.
Requirement to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the Service. Due to the rural nature of Moray, this is normally undertaken by use of a car/van
Strong communication skills with ability to engage with colleagues, academia, partners and the public to build productive relationships with key stakeholders.
Ability to interact and engage with young learners, those with additional support needs and their carers & educators.
Outstanding communication skills both orally and written, appropriate to a range of audiences including children.
Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs and demands of the service.
Hybrid working - Work location can be home, with a requirement for some time in the STEM Starts Centres in Elgin and other locations across Moray, dependent on the demands of the programme.
This post is considered to be a ‘Regulated Role’ under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. Under the Act it is a legal requirement for an individual undertaking a regulated role with children or protected adults to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.
Therefore the successful candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to any formal offer of employment being made by Moray Council.

Starting Salary: £34,778 (pro rata)
£18.45 per hour
24 hours per week (term time) for the 1st year then to 21 hours (52 weeks per year)
