We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Greenwich to assist with the appointment of a Street Trading and Market Inspector, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £14.74 - £18.67 per hour
Summary:
The Street Trading and Market Inspector is responsible for supporting the effective operation, regulation, and enforcement of the Boroughs public markets and street trading activities. The role ensures compliance with relevant Acts, Regulations, and Bye-laws, while promoting safe, legal, and customer-focused markets. The post holder will investigate trading practices, manage licensing-related issues, handle public enquiries and complaints, and take enforcement action where necessaryincluding against illegal street trading. The role also includes operational duties related to market sites, monitoring contracted cleaning services, collecting fees, preparing reports, and liaising with internal departments and external organisations.
Responsibilities:
Enforce relevant Acts, Regulations, Bye-laws, rules, and policies relating to street trading and markets.
Investigate trading practices that impact daily market operations or licensing and tenancy processes.
Assist in investigations related to issuing and renewing market licences and tenancies.
Prepare reports, letters, statements, statistics, and maintain accurate records and work registers.
Oversee daily operations of public markets and street trading sites, including allocation of pitches and supervision of traders.
Monitor market traders compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and all relevant legislation.
Qualifications:
GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
Requirements:
Full UK Driving Licence (if required for patrolling duties).
Knowledge of market regulations, street trading legislation, or local authority enforcement processes.
Experiences:
Experience working in a regulatory, enforcement, compliance, or inspection-based role.
Experience dealing with members of the public and resolving complaints.
Experience preparing reports, maintaining records, and handling administrative tasks.
Experience working in an environment requiring adherence to procedures and legislation.
Experience working outdoors and/or in fast-paced operational settings.
