Long Term Futures are looking to appoint Teaching Assistant for a small alternative provision that supports students with SEMH needs in the Shepshed area. The school supports pupils aged 5-16 who need a calmer, more structured setting than mainstream. Class sizes are small, and staff work closely together to give pupils clear routines and consistent support.
This role would suit someone who is confident around young people and comfortable supporting behaviour. People with backgrounds in education, SEN, SEMH, youth work, mentoring or sports coaching often do well in this type of setting.
The Role
- Supporting pupils on a 1-1 basis and in small groups
- Support pupils to build life skills, in preparation for life after education
- Helping students manage behaviour, emotions and day-to-day routines
- Encouraging pupils to engage in lessons and follow plans set by teachers
- Working with the school team to keep pupils on track and safe
- Being a steady, reliable presence throughout the school day
What We're Looking For
- Experience working with children or young people who need extra support
- A calm, patient and consistent approach
- Someone comfortable dealing with challenging behaviour when it arises
- We welcome applicants with experience in education, support work, residential care, sports coaching etc.
