This role requires an Enhanced DBS
Our client is seeking an experienced Local Plan Engagement Officer to join their dynamic team.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure residents have meaningful opportunities to engage and influence local plans, service developments and improvements.
Support the use of innovative, industry-leading approaches to community engagement.
Deliver engagement activity to agreed quality standards and timelines.
Community Engagement:
Assist in planning and delivering resident engagement events, ensuring they are well-managed, well-attended and within budget.
Provide guidance and support to colleagues on engagement activity, collaborating on their engagement plans when required.
Research, design and support the delivery of community meetings, engagement groups, forums and focus groups—both independently and with third-sector partners.
Encourage resident involvement by sharing tools and resources that enable effective participation.
Support and implement a range of engagement initiatives tailored to community preferences.
Continually review and improve approaches for engaging under-represented groups, including non-traditional methods.
Build strong relationships with community organisations, charities, third-sector partners and internal stakeholders; maintain a register of engaged stakeholders.
Facilitate corporate and borough-wide surveys and benchmarking work.
Ensure community organisations, partners and residents can contribute to and co-design engagement activity where appropriate.
Maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders (e.g., community groups, residents, MPs, third sector, statutory services, youth organisations, faith groups, artists and freelancers).
Communications & Events:
Support the creation of clear, jargon-free engagement materials for residents and stakeholders.
Develop improved communication channels and methods to reach diverse and under-represented groups.
Prepare and support materials such as newsletters, flyers, online content, social media and translations.
Contribute to and support events that enhance community engagement.
Suggest new engagement events and opportunities aligned with organisational priorities.
Other duties to include:
Carry out administration, reporting, monitoring and data management for engagement activity.
Contribute to the annual engagement and consultation forward plan.
Maintain an up-to-date engagement log.
Contribute to the development of engagement procedures and best practice.
Follow safe working practices, particularly when lone working or working off-site.
Attend team, project and activity meetings to support effective planning and delivery.
Deputise for colleagues when required.
Keep up to date with sector developments to drive continuous improvement.
Ensure all engagement activity aligns with organisational frameworks, strategies and annual plans.
Undertake any other tasks appropriate to the role.
Participate in training and development where required.
Work in line with organisational values, health and safety requirements, GDPR, equality and customer care standards.
Ensure appropriate levels of emergency planning and business continuity preparedness.
Provide supervision/management of staff when required.
Undertake additional or alternative duties during emergencies or changing service needs.
