Do you have experience implementing effective systems, managing complex information, and enabling organisations to make informed strategic decisions? Are you a skilled communicator who thrives on collaboration, problem-solving, and improving ways of working?
About us
The Science Museum Group (SMG) is here to inspire futures. As the world's leading group of science museums, we share our extensive collection spanning science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine with millions of visitors each year.
The Global Engagement (GE) team plays a vital role in supporting SMG's International Strategy-building partnerships, crafting impact across key global markets, and enhancing SMG's mission and economic contribution. As our international activity grows, so does our need for robust internal systems, high-quality information flows and efficient operational processes that allow us to deliver confidently, transparently and at pace.
To help us implement these goals, we are recruiting a Planning and Operations Manager on a 2-year fixed term contract, based at any Science Museum Group site.
About the role
As Planning and Operations Manager, you will oversee the development of effective systems and processes that support SMG's global activity. This includes establishing clear ways of capturing, analysing and sharing information; improving internal integration across teams; and promoting good practice in records management, reporting, compliance and decision-making.
You will manage corporate systems used by the Global Engagement team-from finance and budgets to CRM-and support the creation of performance metrics to measure the impact of SMG's global work. You will also monitor external information channels, including those of the UK Government, ensuring the organisation can respond swiftly to consultations, requests and policy developments.
A key part of the role will be promoting SMG's global work internally and externally, using existing communication channels and identifying new opportunities to share insight, advocate for our impact and enhance our organisational understanding of international activity.
You will line manage the new Planning and Operations Coordinator and work closely with colleagues across SMG, building capacity, championing best practice, and ensuring compliance-including by senior stakeholders.
About you
You will bring extensive experience implementing and using systems to capture and analyse data for performance monitoring, decision-making, and reporting against strategic objectives. Your communication skills and collaborative nature will enable you to work well with diverse colleagues, senior stakeholders, and external partners.
You will have experience managing people, the ability to assimilate complex information quickly, and the confidence to give clear, consistent advice. You will also be comfortable with budgets, financial reporting, KPIs and monitoring progress.
Curious and motivated, you will enjoy research-from market testing to exploring new partnership opportunities-and bring a values-driven, inclusive approach that supports the culture we want to foster across SMG.
It would be an advantage if you have some knowledge of the museum or culture sectors.
