Job Title: Materials Support - Water Spider
Overview:
You will be based in Manchester, joining a team of over 80 professionals working on a major rolling stock overhaul project for the Class 390 Avanti High Speed Trains. Purpose of Role:
To ensure all material is delivered to the point of use as required. Collection and delivery of repairable components to and from stores to required work location
Loading and unloading of delivery vehicles
Location:
Manchester Train Care Centre, Longsight, M12 4HR
Start Date:
Start of Project = staggered starts each week from 05/01/2026 up to 23/02/2026
Envisaged End Date:
End of June 2027
Shift Pattern:
5 x Contractors on Days only
1 x Contractor will be required to work Nights.
Hours:
40 hours per week on ramp up / 48 hours once project is in full operation
Start and Finish times: (Subject to change at client's request)
Days: 06:00 hours to 16:00 hours
Nights: 19:00 hours to 06:00 hours
Days Only.
Pay:
Pre 12 weeks: PAYE £15.79 per hour (28 days accrued leave) / Umbrella £20.43 per hour
Post 12 weeks: PAYE £15.79 per hour (33 days accrued leave) / Umbrella £21.58 per hour
Nights Only.
Pay:
Pre 12 weeks: PAYE £18.71 per hour (28 days accrued leave) / Umbrella £24.21 per hour
Post 12 weeks: PAYE £18.71 per hour (33 days accrued leave) / Umbrella £25.57 per hour
An additional retainer of £1.00 per hour on all hours worked will be payable.
This is subject to tooling returned in satisfactory condition and you have completed the project.
This role is inside of IR35 regulations and therefore PAYE or Umbrella Company payment options apply.

Qualifications and Skills required:
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- IT skills - competent user of Personal Computer, including office packages, e-mail and intranet. Additionally, should have a clear understanding of Alstom's bespoke systems i.e. SAP.
- Operation of Mechanical or Electrical appliances including Counterbalance Forklift Truck licence
- Driving licence
Requirements
- You must live within a reasonable travelling distance to our client's facility in Manchester City Centre
- You must have the right to work in the UK and be able to provide proof of technical qualification
Responsibilities
Work as directed by the Stores Ops Support and comply with:
External: Suppliers, Delivery Drivers, and 3rd Party Auditors & Contractors.
Internal: Materials Team, Stores Team, Operations managers, TCC Managers, General Managers, Systems Engineers, depot engineers & operators.
Will be responsible for:
- Operate the SAP computer system as required
- Ensure security of Stores & Tool Stores
- Carry out regular stock checks using the Physical Inventory process
- Maintenance of Kanban bins for lineside provision of material to Production
- Delivery of materials to point of use as required
- Delivery and collection of parts to and from local workshops (Repair Centres)
- Carry out required Line Of Route activities for both 5S & Lineside
- Good housekeeping
- Operation of Mechanical or Electrical appliances including Fork Lift Trucks and Overhead cranes
- MDI (Managing Daily Improvements) by participation in the updating, and presentation of the SQCD Board and boardwalks
- Adherence to Supply Chain Standard Operations
- Assist with production tasks by means of FLT assistance
Due to working in a safety critical environment, you will be subject to Drugs and Alcohol Testing and will follow strict Health & Safety controls and guidelines.
