Summary
Clinical Responsibilities- Provide perinatal support to antenatal and postnatal mothers in the community, promoting and modeling a high standard of care at all times within the birth-to-five framework.- Participate in the assessment of needs, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care programs for mothers and their babies.- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to local policies at all times, in line with Trust policy. Ante-natal Preparation- Provide practical and emotional support to help mothers prepare for the transition to parenthood.- Support partners, siblings, and wider family members prior to the babys arrival.- Enhance the attachment and bonding process during pregnancy using current research. Enhancing Attachment and Bonding- Support families in understanding the babys perspective.- Baby massage.- Mother and baby wrap.- Talking, playing, and interacting with the baby.- Video interactive guidance. Practical Baby Care- Offer advice and support on feeding and promote breastfeeding where possible.- Bathing, dressing, and changing.- Settling, soothing, and sleep.- Managing crying.- Safety and awareness of handling the baby and head safety.- Help provide a safe and stimulating home environment for babies and children. Best Practice in Baby Care- Liaise regularly with community-based Nursery Nurses, Health Visitors, and other professionals involved in family care.- Provide advice and support as required on age-appropriate play and child development.- Support families with common baby issues and signpost as needed. Encouraging Social Networks- Provide opportunities to run parent groups to encourage socialisation and signposting to local childrens centres.- Offer practical advice to mothers on establishing patterns and routines to care for their baby.- Signpost and assist families in attending current parenting programmes at local childrens centres.- Identify local age-appropriate play opportunities. Team Working- Contribute to the development of staff and students as appropriate.- Work within a team of healthcare professionals to provide the best care possible.- Make effective use of clinical supervision to reflect on and develop own practice.
