The Role
We are seeking a committed and organised Assistant Service Manager (Children’s) to join our Children’s Services team on a 9-month maternity cover contract, beginning January 2025. There is the possibility of extension depending on organisational needs.
In this role, you will support the Service Manager with the day-to-day running of Children’s Services, ensuring high-quality and person-centred delivery. You will lead on staff rotas, support staff development, maintain service records, and build strong relationships with families and professionals. This is a rewarding position where you can make a real difference to the lives of children with learning disabilities and their families.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Supporting the management and coordination of Children’s Services
Leading on rota planning and staffing cover
Ensuring services meet regulatory, legislative, and organisational standards
Line managing and developing staff
Maintaining accurate records and supporting audits
Communicating with parents, carers, and external professionals
Contributing to risk management and safeguarding procedures
Participating in the on-call rota
Assisting with service planning, monitoring, and evaluation
What We’re Looking For:
Essential:
Experience working in a similar role
Understanding of the needs of people with learning disabilities
Strong organisational and planning skills
Ability to prioritise workloads and work both independently and as part of a team
Experience using CRM systems, Microsoft Office, and rota management tools
GCSE Maths & English (A–C or equivalent)
Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and person-centred support
Desirable:
Leadership or management qualification (or willingness to work towards one)
Experience in service management
