An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic clinical pharmacist to join our forward-thinking, patient-focused Orthopaedic team to provide an enhanced service for orthopaedic elective and trauma patients for a fixed period of 1 year of maternity cover.

We welcome applications from motivated and driven Pharmacists with excellent clinical and communication skills. You must be efficient, organised, able to work as a team and autonomously and also be innovative and resourceful. It is an exciting role that will require interaction with a variety of people, including patients, specialist nurses, orthopaedic nurse practitioners, surgical care practitioners, doctors, and consultants.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious pharmacist to work as part of an Orthopaedic team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, working alongside our Nurse Practitioners and Surgical Care Practitioners who are ward and theatre-based based providing an enhanced service for elective and trauma patients.

The post holder will join a team responsible for the pre-operative assessment clinics and prescribing/transcribing services on the orthopaedic inpatient wards.

This involves providing a comprehensive service including:
• pre-assessment
• counselling patients
• writing the electronic drug charts in preparation for the patient’s admission.
• medicines optimisations
• prescribing for all inpatients,
• completing electronic drug charts for emergency admissions
• writing discharge prescriptions
• therapeutic drug monitoring
• audit and quality improvement projects

• To advise and independently prescribe patients' medication, in preparation for admission, in the pre-operation assessment clinic. To update the medicines where necessary on admission to the ward and in conjunction with the SDAU pharmacy team, ensure the timely provision of discharge medication.
• To participate in and assist in the provision of clinical pharmacy services to the orthopaedic wards in liaison with the Clinical Pharmacy Team Leaders
• To act as a specialist pharmacist providing an advanced level clinical pharmacy service to a specified clinical speciality which involves a more complex/high risk patient population to optimise patient care with respect to medicines for patients in liaison with health care professionals, including medical and nursing staff;
• To initiate and actively implement service developments in orthopaedics, including pharmacy-led service developments, i.e. one one-stop dispensing, patient self-administration schemes and use of patients’ own drugs
• To develop a highly specialist knowledge of the clinical speciality and treatment of co-morbidities to promote and support evidence-based medicine within the clinical speciality and across the Trust in order to fulfil the role as a pharmaceutical lead in the specified clinical area
