Crynodeb

This is a new role which will sit within the Media and International (MINT) policy directorate. Our aims are to drive sustainable and inclusive growth in the media sector, serve the needs of audiences and protect the future of public service media. Within the directorate, analysts and policy officials work together closely to deliver these across a range of policy areas including television and broadcasting, advertising, press, radio, and international strategy.

As the successful candidate you will be a senior analyst supporting policy related to the future of the TV industry and the infrastructure that supports it. You will be part of a cross-site, cross-profession, G6-led analytical team, with opportunities to support a range of policy areas and engage with the wider analytical community. You’ll also benefit from being embedded in the MINT policy directorate and therefore work closely with policy officials, with regular opportunities to engage and present to senior stakeholders, both internally and externally.

Our teams are sociable, friendly and supportive, and we put a strong emphasis on learning, development and wellbeing. There is a brilliant, collaborative culture across DCMS policy teams and the wider DCMS analytical community, too. In this role you will be part of both analytical and policy teams, meaning you will get the best of both worlds!

This role will provide an experienced analyst with a unique opportunity to play a vital part in shaping the future of the TV industry. At a time when the media landscape is rapidly evolving and the Government is considering what the future of media consumption might look like – online or offline, live or on-demand, at home or on the go – this role will provide an exciting career opportunity for anyone looking to lead a challenging programme of work and make a real impact to our daily lives.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the analytical work to support policy decisions around Media and Trust, and Prominence of Public Service Broadcasters on new media platforms. This will involve conducting in-house analysis to decipher and articulate the most suitable long-term option.
  • Drafting and contributing to government submissions, such as Green Papers, White Papers, Business Cases, and Impact Assessments.
  • Managing research contracts with academics and technical experts to develop the evidence base for crucial decision making.
  • Collaborating with expert stakeholders including counterparts at the regulator Ofcom, and in the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology.
  • Being a badged member of the Government analytical profession, and an active member of both the Media and International Policy Directorate and wider DCMS analytical community.
