The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department has a vacancy for a Trust Dental Core Trainee – equivalent to ST1-2 to commence asap to cover the maternity leave of the current postholder to 1st September 2026.

This post would be particularly beneficial for those doctors wishing to gain general experience in Oral & Maxillofacial in a supportive environment and develop an area of interest and expertise.

The Trust Dental Core trainee will spend the majority of their time at the New Cross Hospital where they will be attending outpatient clinics and day surgery theatres however, they will be rostered for Russell’s Hall activity according to a rolling timetable.

Clinical duties of the Trust Dental Surgeon (Core level):
• Attendance at Day Surgery and In-Patient theatre operating lists
• Assistance in the operating theatre
• Attendance at Minor Oral Surgery local anaesthetic operating sessions
• Attendance at OMFS outpatient clinics (there is also scope for trainees to attend Orthodontic clinics according to their individual training needs or wishes)
• Assessment and initial management of patients referred to the OMFS department from A+E, GDPs, GPs, and other hospital departments
• Clerking of patients for theatre
• Management of OMFS in-patients on the wards
• Part of the first on-call DCT level rota
