We are currently supporting a special needs school who cater to children and young people aged 3 to 19 years old with a wide range of complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The needs of the pupils include severe learning difficulties (SLD) and profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). The school provides a quality and inclusive educations for pupils.
The Role
We are looking for a compassionate, resilient, and proactive Learning Support Assistant to join our dedicated team. In this role, you will support pupils with complex needs within a classroom environment, working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to provide tailored, high-quality support that helps each pupil thrive.
Candidates with experience in care or nursing settings are particularly well-suited to this role. Previous school experience is not required, as we offer comprehensive CPD and training to help you build the skills and confidence needed to succeed in the classroom.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing 1:1 or small group support to pupils
- Assisting with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
- Supporting pupils with personal care, mobility, and physical needs as required
- Encouraging communication through specialist strategies (PECS, Makaton, AAC)
- Promoting independence, confidence, and emotional wellbeing
- Creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment

Essential:
- A positive, patient, and empathetic approach
- Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and staff
- Willingness to support children with physical and personal care needs
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
Desirable:
- Experience working in a special needs or SEND school setting
- Knowledge of communication methods such as Makaton, PECS, or BSL
- Relevant qualifications (CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ in Supporting Teaching and Learning)
