Summary
Infrastructure Services
The purpose of Infrastructure services is to ensure our services and systems are hosted effectively, securely and efficiently.
The function of Infrastructure services brings all network and hosting infrastructure into a single team which will provide a multi-skilled 24/7 Infra Operations team organised by function and focussed on supporting continual improvement.
The teams are divided into four core areas providing technical and service management expertise:
• Hosting
• Cloud centre of excellence
• Connectivity
• Central capabilities
RRP (Recruitment and Retention Premia)
The post of Technical Consultant has been awarded a Recruitment and Retention Premia (RRP) in response to current labour market conditions. In recognition of this, the role attracts an additional monthly RRP payment equal to 13% per annum.
The Technical Consultant band 7 will work closely with the Technical Operations Manager (Vulnerability and Risk Management) to reduce the overall risk and threat landscape of the NHS England Infrastructure Services estate.
This will include but not be limited to:
• Undertaking patching of both on prem and Cloud based infrastructure
• Assist with the production EMT reports in relation to patching and risk
• Develop techniques, processes and tooling to increase the speed and efficacy of patching
• Work with the IT Ops team to address data quality shortfalls
• Work across Directorates to develop reporting capabilities from Vulnerability Management tooling.
The Vulnerability and Patch Management team is a sub-team, embedded within the Infrastructure Services pillar, working closely with the IT Operations team. The team is positioned in the front and centre of a cyber exposure programme, which generates many opportunities to develop skills and experiences to support this programme of work.
Responsibilities will include:
• Maintenance of tooling used to deliver the capabilities of the role.
• Utilisation of the processes and procedures in place to deliver the patching and vulnerability management function.
Our work supports the NHS to deliver high quality services for patients and best value for taxpayers.
Our staff bring expertise across hundreds of specialisms — including clinical, operational, commissioning, technology, data science, cyber security, software engineering, education, and commercial — enabling us to design and deliver high-quality NHS services.
We lead the NHS in England by:
• Enabling local systems and providers to improve the health of their people and patients and reduce health inequalities
• Making the NHS a great place to work, where our people can make a difference and achieve their potential
• Working collaboratively to ensure our healthcare workforce has the right knowledge, skills, values and behaviours to deliver accessible, compassionate care
• Optimising the use of digital technology, research, and innovation
• Delivering value for money
Earlier this year, the Government announced that NHS England will gradually merge with the Department of Health and Social Care, leading to full integration. The aim is to create a smaller, more strategic centre that reduces duplication and eliminates waste.
If successful at interview, we will initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). This retrieves key data from your current or previous NHS employer to support onboarding, including competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement. You may opt out at any stage of the recruitment process.
You can find further details about the role, organisational structure, recruitment profile, expected outcomes and benefits information in the attached Job Description and other supporting documents.
Please note that this is a short-term fixed term contract.
