Vacancy – Self-employed Instructor and Mentor (Woodworker and Carpenter)
As an instructor duties will include planning, preparing, and delivering lessons, assessing student progress, and creating a safe and engaging environment. Instructors must work with students of varying abilities and needs, communicate with parents and colleagues. You will be required to have a DBS clearance made which we will do for you if you are a successful applicant. We are seeking candidates that have a passion for there chosen skills and you do not have to be from a teaching background. Self-employed applications only.
Lesson planning and preparation
● Develop and organise engaging lesson plans and learning activities based on curriculum guidelines.
● Utilise a variety of teaching methods and materials, including visual, audio, and hands-on tools, to suit different learning styles.
● Create and organise learning resources, such as handouts, assignments, and displays.
Instruction and classroom management
● Deliver lessons to the entire class, small groups, or individual students.
● Establish and enforce clear classroom rules and expectations to maintain discipline and ensure a positive learning environment.
● Encourage student participation and foster critical thinking skills.
● Adapt teaching strategies and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students, including those with special needs or high abilities.
Assessment and reporting
● Assess, monitor, and record students' progress, attainment, and behavior.
● Provide regular and constructive feedback to students, both orally and through marking their work.
● Prepare and present reports to parents and administration on student performance.
Professional collaboration
● Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding students' achievements, progress, and well-being.
● Collaborate with other teachers, teaching assistants, school governors, and support staff to coordinate curriculum and address student needs.
● Engage in continuous professional development and attend staff meetings and training sessions.
Pastoral and safeguarding duties
● Act as a mentor and provide guidance and support on academic, social, and emotional issues.
● Promote the health, welfare, and safety of students in line with safeguarding procedures.
● Report any concerns regarding student well-being, neglect, or abuse.
Essential skills and qualifications
● Qualifications: Some positions require a relevant degree and a teaching qualification, such as Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
● Due to the nature of the types of activities we deliver relevant experience and qualifications within those areas are required.
● Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with students, parents, and colleagues.
● Interpersonal skills: Patience, empathy, and the ability to build a good rapport with students are crucial for a supportive classroom.
● Organisation and time management: Teachers must be highly organised to manage lesson planning, marking, and administrative tasks.
● Adaptability: A flexible and creative mindset is needed to adapt to different teaching methods and student needs.
● Subject knowledge: A thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the subject or curriculum being taught is required.
