Crynodeb

We are excited to offer an opportunity for an experienced and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming, inclusive school in Exeter, Devon.
This full-time role is ideal for someone with a background in supporting children and young people on the Autism Spectrum and a genuine passion for helping them flourish in a safe, structured, and positive learning environment.

As part of the school's dedicated SEN team, you'll work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to deliver tailored learning and behavioural strategies that enable every pupil to reach their potential.

Your Main Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ensuring they can access the curriculum and thrive both academically and socially.
- Assist with implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and sensory support strategies.
- Use your understanding of Autism to identify triggers, adapt communication approaches, and maintain calm, consistent routines.
- Collaborate with teachers and therapists to monitor progress, manage transitions, and celebrate pupil achievements.
- Promote social inclusion by supporting the development of communication, emotional regulation, and life skills.
- Apply positive behaviour support techniques, such as Team Teach, PMVA, or MAPA.

About You

We are looking for someone who combines patience, empathy, and professional curiosity with a passion for inclusive education.
You will ideally have:
- Direct experience supporting children or young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), either in schools, residential care, or community settings.
- Strong understanding of Autism-related learning, sensory, and communication needs.
- Excellent observation and listening skills, with the ability to interpret behaviour and respond calmly.
- A resilient, nurturing approach that builds trust and encourages independence.
- A clear commitment to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children.

Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or health and social care are desirable, but not essential for candidates who demonstrate the right experience and attitude.

Desirable Skills and Training
- Experience with challenging behaviour and de-escalation.
- Certification in Team Teach, PMVA, or similar accredited behaviour management training.
- Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or other communication systems.
- Understanding of EHCPs, sensory profiles, and Autism education frameworks.
- Awareness of co-occurring needs such as ADHD or anxiety.

What You'll Gain

Joining this role offers the chance to make a tangible impact every single day.
You'll be supported by a compassionate senior leadership team who value staff wellbeing and professional growth.

We offer:
- £19.05 per hour, paid weekly.
- Full-time hours during term-time, providing consistency and work-life balance.
- Access to ongoing professional development, including safeguarding and Autism-specific CPD.
- Opportunities to work across different key stages and settings within Exeter and the wider Devon area.
- A collaborative environment where your ideas and expertise are genuinely valued.
