Our client, a reputable educational institution in Cullompton, Devon, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Part-time SEN Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing individualised support to students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), ensuring they receive the necessary guidance and assistance to thrive in their learning environment.
As an integral member of our client's SEN department, the Teaching Assistant will work closely with the SEN Coordinator (SENCo) and other teaching staff to develop and implement personalised learning plans tailored to each student's specific needs. Key responsibilities of the SEN Teaching Assistant include:
- Providing one-to-one and small group support to students with SEN, focusing on their academic, social, and emotional development
- Collaborating with the SENCo and teaching staff to create and deliver differentiated lessons and activities that cater to individual learning styles and abilities
- Monitoring and assessing student progress, maintaining accurate records, and providing regular feedback to the SENCo, teachers, and parents
- Assisting with the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs)
- Encouraging students to participate in classroom activities and promoting a positive, inclusive learning environment
- Supporting students during break times and lunchtime supervision, ensuring their safety and well-being
- Attending and contributing to meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to stay informed of the latest SEN best practices and strategies
To be considered for this part-time role, applicants should possess the following qualifications and experience:
- A minimum of a Level 2 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or equivalent
- Proven experience working with children or young people with SEN, preferably within an educational setting
- A solid understanding of the challenges faced by students with SEN and the strategies to support their learning and development
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team and build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to working with students who may display challenging behaviours
- Proficiency in using technology to support learning, such as interactive whiteboards and educational software
