Category Manager

? Hybrid (Chertsey / Warrington / Wakefield – 2 days per week in office)
? Full-time | Permanent

Join one of the UK’s leading food procurement organisations and help shape the future of food supply for the NHS.

At Foodbuy, part of Compass Group UK & Ireland, we manage over £2bn in annual spend across food and non-food categories — connecting clients, suppliers, and communities through smarter, more sustainable procurement. We proudly manage the NHS Supply Chain: Food Procurement service, ensuring value, quality, and security of supply across the NHS.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Category Manager to join our growing team. Reporting to the Head of Procurement, you’ll lead a team of buyers and take ownership of two transacted frameworks, driving strategic sourcing, supplier performance, and continuous improvement that directly impacts NHS Trusts nationwide.

What you’ll be doing
  • Lead, inspire and develop a team of 2 Buyers and 1 Junior Buyer to deliver savings, growth, and category performance.

  • Drive procurement and supplier management strategies that maximise value and support NHS Trust needs.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Account Management, Operations, Finance, and Data teams to deliver KPIs.

  • Develop and execute category plans to support client objectives and grow market share.

  • Deliver outstanding stakeholder engagement and champion Foodbuy’s value proposition within the NHS Supply Chain.

  • Promote best practice in procurement, supplier collaboration, and continuous improvement across the function.

About you

We’re looking for someone who combines strong commercial acumen with a collaborative, ethical approach. You’ll be confident managing complex frameworks, leading people, and influencing stakeholders at all levels.

You’ll bring:

  • Proven experience in category management or procurement, ideally within food, retail, or public sector environments.

  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.

  • A proactive, results-driven mindset, with the ability to deliver under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across diverse teams and suppliers.

  • Leadership capability to motivate, coach and develop a high-performing team.

  • Understanding of PA23 regulations and public procurement (desirable).

Why join us?

At Foodbuy, you’ll play a key role in shaping the way the NHS sources food — balancing value, quality, and sustainability. You’ll be part of a team that’s passionate about doing the right thing for clients, suppliers, and the planet.

We offer:

  • A hybrid working model with offices in Chertsey, Warrington, or Wakefield

  • The backing of a FTSE 100 company with excellent career development opportunities

  • A collaborative, supportive culture that values innovation and continuous improvement
