Summary

This post would suit an individual who aims to pursue a career in Medicine with a specialist interest in Medical Education, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The successful candidate will be involved in coordinating and delivering the Trust’s undergraduate clinical teaching programme (five sessions per week per annual average) and will undertake five sessions of clinical duties and professional development.

The main educational duties will be delivering structured clinical teaching sessions, including bedside teaching, seminars, and teaching clinics, as well as running formative exams including OSCE exams. This will include three Saturday mornings per year to help with the Leicester Medical student assessments, which you will have as time off in lieu. We encourage postgraduate study and support engagement in educational research.

The main clinical duties will be to support the busy departments within the divisions of Emergency & Medicine and Surgery. Specialist clinics and skills training can be arranged according to career interest.

There are no on-call commitments to the post. Locum opportunities are commonly available but can only be taken up as long as they do not impact on the educational service delivery.

Supervision of this post will be divided between the Clinical Sub-Dean for Cambridge Medical Students and the named Educational Supervisor.

Applications are invited from registered Medical Practitioners for the above post based within the Department of Medical & Dental Education, as well as the Division of Emergency & Medicine.

Teaching is provided in a variety of clinical settings and the post holder will be expected to spend approximately five sessions per week teaching undergraduate medical students from Cambridge Medical School. The post holder will be expected to participate in the student induction sessions, including those at Cambridge Medical School and assessment sessions.

It is expected that annual leave will be taken during the times when students are not on placement at the Trust. If leave is taken during a student placement block a prospective cover will have to be agreed by the Medical Education Department.

Placements for students in their first two hospital blocks in their first clinical year take the form of“Core Clinical Method”that spans both medical and surgical specialties with specialty-specific blocks (including medicine) thereafter over the year. Final year students (year 6) also have specialty specific rotations, including senior medicine.

A variety of clinical sessions are provided within the job plan, and it is expected that these will provide the post holder with valuable clinical experience as well as providing opportunities to deliver clinical teaching.

We are committed to diversity and inclusion and welcome applicants from all backgrounds — especially people from ethnic minority groups, disabled individuals, and those living locally.

We offer a range of benefits to support our staff — see the attached leaflet for details and are proud to be a supportive, inclusive workplace where you will feel valued and empowered. Join us and help make a difference in our community.

We will attempt to accommodate the requests of the post holder for their clinical placements, but this may not always be possible.
