Summary

We’re looking for a proactive and detail-focused Assistant Accountant to join our clients busy finance team. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in accuracy, and wants to grow their career in a supportive and forward-thinking environment.
You’ll be hands-on with all things finance - from managing the purchase ledger and reconciling bank accounts to preparing management accounts and supporting wider finance projects. It’s a role with real ownership, responsibility, and progression built in.

Duties of Assistant Accountant:

- Take full responsibility for processing supplier invoices and matching them to POs
- Work closely with internal teams to resolve any queries
- Prepare and process regular supplier payment runs
- Build positive relationships with suppliers and ensure everything is up to date

- Carry out daily and monthly bank reconciliations for several accounts
- Post and allocate transactions correctly
- Manage company credit cards

- Prepare monthly management accounts for a smaller group entity
- Post journals, accruals, and prepayments
- Reconcile key profit and loss and balance sheet accounts
- Submit accurate monthly reporting to the Financial Controller

- Maintain key balance sheet reconciliations (fixed assets, VAT, payroll, accruals, intercompany)
- Provide occasional cover for credit control — sending invoices and chasing outstanding payments
- Assist with year-end audit work and preparation of supporting schedules
- Help document and improve finance processes and controls

Essential:

- Solid experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar role
- Good knowledge of purchase ledger and reconciliations
- Confident Excel skills
- Strong attention to detail and great organisational skills
- The ability to meet deadlines and manage your own workload
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach
