Your leadership will be instrumental in modernising how rent is viewed and managed across the organisation shifting from a traditional accounting lens to a strategic, compliance-led function.
As the Head of Rents, you'll work cross-functionally with senior stakeholders across Finance, Development, and Housing Management to raise the profile of the Rents function, embed best practices, and influence decision-making at a strategic level. This role is not a traditional budget holder position, but you will be accountable for ensuring rent forecasts are accurate and aligned with regulatory expectations.
You'll also ensure the board, regulator, and our customers are provided with reliable, accessible, and comprehensive rent information. This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives on precision, understands the strategic importance of rent in social housing, and is ready to lead change in a complex, regulated environment.
What are we looking for from you? You've worked with large housing portfolios (ideally 30,000+ homes) and understand the nuances of managing multiple rent products—from social and affordable rents to market and shared ownership rents. You're confident working through the fine detail of rent calculations—ensuring accuracy down to the penny—because you understand that even the smallest error can carry significant financial and reputational risk. Your precision helps protect the organisation and build trust with our customers.
You'll bring a deep understanding of rent regulation and a proven track record in rent setting within a housing association environment. You're confident navigating the complexities of the Rent Standard, and you understand the critical importance of compliance in protecting organisational reputation and financial health.
You'll be able to translate complex regulatory and financial data into clear, actionable insights for a range of stakeholders. You're comfortable working with both the big picture and the finer detail.
You're a natural leader who thrives on developing people and leading change. You understand that great leadership is about more than oversight; it's about building trust, empowering others, and creating a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. You'll be a leader who can take your team through change with empathy and clarity.
We're looking for someone who is:
-Experienced in managing rent compliance for large social housing portfolios
-Skilled in rent setting for new developments, acquisitions, and tenancy changes
-Adept at identifying and mitigating regulatory risks
-A confident communicator and influencer, able to engage senior leaders and cross-functional teams
-Passionate about delivering fair, accurate, and customer-focused rent services
While this role is home-based, you should be able to travel within the Group's area and attend offices as needed. Our offices are in Birmingham Business Park, Solihull, and Central Park, Worcester, with travel expected to be one day per week.
